SRE meeting minutes

10-1-07

A huge crowd filled VU 425, enjoying pizza and learning about SRE at the first meeting of the quarter.

-Attendees shared their reasons for being interested in the club.
-Rose gave a history of SRE. Future vision: producing renewable energy on campus
-Sign-up sheets for committees were passed around. The first meetings for these committees are expected to start next week.
-Solar Panel Demo System: Since administration has taken this project and run with it, our job is to develop good content for the kiosk.
-Speaker Series and Education: Help needed with posting signs.
-Wind Assessment: Analysis of Sehome hill and waterfront sites (a year of data needed).
-Conservation: Encouraging energy conservation in the dorms and on campus in general. Every $1 spent on efficiency is worth $3 in energy savings.
-Questions were raised:
-Have we worked with the engineering department?
A: Yes.
-Are there set leaders for the committees?
A: No, not necessarily.
-Biodiesel at WWU?
A: There may be too many barriers, but it is a possible other project.
-Do we collaborate with other clubs?
A: Yes. This Thurs., Oct. 4 please come to the Environmental Club Summit in VU 464 at 5 pm.
-Why are the lights always on at the Rec. Ctr.?
A: Administration red tape makes such issues difficult. It is worthy of investigation.
