Solar/Wind

  • Draft of waterfront proposal ready to be presented (woohoo!)
  • Erica is meeting with computer science students tomorrow about kiosk project
  • A sketch is in the works for the new sign for the PAC plaza (solar panels)
  • Meeting next Monday at 4:00 (VU 460) about water front proposal

Conservation

  • Went over meeting with Steve Morrow (head plumber) about water usage
  • Had a meeting with Rebekah Hooke, ran into some issues with dorm project
  • Have received lots of info from Rec-Center about laundry; have permission to do a survey
  • Web seminar this Wednesday at 10:00 am (contact Jacob or Alyssa for location)

Education

  • First panel this Wednesday at 5:00, CF 125
  • Working on presentation of Who Killed the Electric Car? for winter quarter

  • Date for presentation is tentatively Wednesday, Nov 19th, at 5 pm in CF 125 (posters encountered a holdup)

  • PSE will be funding the project to replace some of the lighting in the Rec Center with more efficient lighting! Woohoo!
  • Ian met with recycling committee about new system
  • Alyssa and Kelley are working on meeting with Steve Morrow about water efficient toilets
  • Courtney is working on assessing Rec Center laundry

Solar

  • Working on signs for kiosk and solar panels
  • Working on proposal for water front

Wind

  • Permits still pending for meteorological tower

There was no meeting today, Nov. 3rd. Instead, SRE got to take a campus "energy" tour with Ron Bailey. We went into the new Academic Instructional Center, the Rec Center, and the Steam Plant.

Website
  • Each committee should update its description on the website
  • SRE as a whole needs to reevaluate how we want to use the website

Solar

  • Solar and Wind met to look at adding details to waterfront proposals
  • Met with Todd Morton and two computer science majors about updating kiosk; it may not happen for a while

Wind

  • Met with Solar about editing proposals; there will also be another meeting on Nov 24th
  • Holdups occurred while obtaining permits for meteorological tower on water; would also like to work on getting a tower for Sehome hill

Conservation

  • Last week designated sub-committees
  • Dorm sub-committee did Fairhaven walk-through
  • Building assessment group designated assignments for rec center
  • Tentative campus energy tour scheduled for next monday; will let everyone know

Education

  • Working on presentation for Nov 19th, Dan Haggen will be speaking
  • Received $140 in donations from Co-op and WECU
  • Grace is still working on posters
  • Meetings scheduled in Bond Hall 317 on Thursdays at 4:15
  • Want to begin working on presentations for Jan and Feb

Administrative Issues
Committee leaders need to submit finalized rosters to Scott.
Solar and Wind committees will be meeting with Sarah Ishmael about waterfront building
proposals; meeting time to be scheduled.
SRE would like to send a representative to an AS council meeting; see committee leaders for
more information.

Education
The committee is trying to meet with Dan Haggen and Ron Bailey about upcoming
presentations.
They are also working on making posters for presentations, courtesy of Grace. They will
also be meeting to arrange funding for these posters.

Conservation
The meeting last week included Rebecca Hooke (Go for the Green Campaign) and Ron Bailey.
A sub-committee is forming to be heavily involved with sustainability in the dorms.
Ron Bailey talked about (and brought graphs) the energy usage of each building on campus.
The committe would like to arrange a meeting to talk about legislation and Western's energy
policies with the State.
A sub-committee is still working on finishing the Rec Center building assessment.
A campus energy tour is in the process of being arranged.

Solar
Committee met with Todd Morton for solar kiosk project. They have found a student that
may help with this project as well.
They plan on arranging more signs for kiosk.
The other major project is working with Wind on proposal for waterfront property.

Wind
The main concern right now is the waterfront property proposals and meteorological tower.

  • Will meet this Wed. at 5: 15 pm
  • Jacob and Alyssa brainstormed ideas for the upcoming mtg.
  • Possible projects: more recycling bins, continuing the building assessment study, bringing back the "tip-of-the-month" on the revolving TV display, working with the dorms
  • ropes course at Lakewood?

Solar

  • Meets every Monday at 4 pm in VU462A
  • Erica is waiting to hear back from Todd Morton regarding the kiosk content
  • More signage for kiosk
  • Major project: Including solar panels in the waterfront development plans

Education

  • May meet Tues. or Thurs. at 5 pm
  • First lecture to discuss the new Green Tags
  • Needs a new graphic designer
  • One or two speakers per quarter

Wind

  • May meet Mondays at 4 pm
  • Will approach the waterfront development committee along with the Solar committee
  • meteorological tower is awaiting permitting

Sustainability Fund

  • Jacob announced that this fund, which now contains $1,000, is funded by the Western Foundation and will be administered by the Office of Sustainability

Leadership

  • We want to get members prepared now to take on leadership roles since the leaders will graduate this spring

Green Power Request for Proposals

  • Last week, the proposals from different companies were evaluated and scored
  • Student's choices received the greatest weight
  • New Green Tags will have the most environmental benefit at the best value
  • The final choice will be announced this Friday

Environmental Club Liaison

  • Greta will be attending the main SRE mtgs. to help us network with other environmental clubs

  • members got to network with speakers; speakers were grateful for the creative discussion

  • Scott will work on the proposal during the summer
  • AS President is excited about the concept
  • egg-beater style is not recommended

Solar

  • Professor Morton to work on the kiosk
  • Nate will publish his solar study this week; Benson to post it online
